Join us to open an evening of international collaboration connecting Japan, the UK and Boston. This session introduces NINEJP, a national network bringing together nine university startup support platforms across Japan to support the creation and growth of globally competitive university-linked startups.
Through opening remarks and an introduction to NINEJP’s activities, participants will learn about the delegation’s goals: showcasing research-driven innovation from Japan, exploring international partnerships and laying the foundations for a lasting innovation community. The session sets the scene for the startup showcase and panel discussion that follow, inviting participants to explore how research, talent, investment and markets can connect across borders.
There will be meaningful networking opportunities throughout the night, accompanied by a selection of refreshments.
Meet three university-linked startups from Japan and discover the technologies, ideas and ambitions driving their international growth. Each team will deliver an approximately five-minute pitch, introducing the challenge it addresses, what makes its technology distinctive and why it is looking to engage with the UK and wider international markets.
Beyond company introductions, the speakers will highlight the partners and opportunities they are seeking, helping participants identify potential connections in investment, joint research, proof-of-concept projects and business collaboration. The showcase offers a starting point for conversations that can continue during the evening’s networking.
How can Japan and the UK accelerate deep-tech innovation together, and how can connections with Boston create further opportunities for collaboration?
Bringing together perspectives from Japan, the UK and Boston, this panel explores how research excellence can translate into global impact. The discussion goes beyond the creation of new ventures to consider research commercialisation, startup growth, investment, market access, joint research and corporate partnerships.
Panellists will examine how the ecosystems’ strengths in research, technology, capital, talent and markets can complement one another. They will explore both the opportunities for Japanese startups and researchers to engage internationally and the value that UK and Boston partners can find through deeper collaboration with Japan. The conversation will conclude with practical steps towards joint projects, investment and lasting cross-border relationships.
